No, not the dog, anything but the dog.

Your first statement is correct.
I knew an asshole that used to disagree with everything I said and a lot of others thought he was very disagreeable. He used to say we'll have to agree to disagree and I hated that response. I guess that ever since I've disliked that response. Maybe it was because that asshole caused me a lot of grief.

Ha. Not trying to cause anyone grief. "Agree to disagree" is simply my way of saying that while I definitely don't agree, we probably should move on because we've reached impasse.

I know, it's just the bad taste in my mouth that jerk left with me. I thought you handled that very well. We can disagree with a post but never the poster.

Really nice having adults in the office again. Dislike Biden, Dems, whatever. Trump had some idiotic and unreasonable policies. Trump's tariffs were stupid and bad business, and in most cases, hurt Americans and consumers more than those they are allegedly directed at. At a time we could not afford them. The current administration is far more reasonable and cares more about the average American consumer.

Your European spirits, beer, and wine just got some relief. Same with lots of other food products and consumer goods. Prices will come down a bit.

So fire the parliamentarian and force Dems to vote against it.

I wasn't actually referring to the parliamentarian...I was actually speaking to a more fundamental level, that Democrats don't have 50 votes to pass a bill with a $15 minimum wage, even if the parliamentarian signed off. I thought the issue boiled down to just Manchin and Sinema, but I heard today that Bernie Sanders' proposed amendment to add the $15 minimum wage was voted against by, I think, 6 Democrats.

This is extremely disappointing to me, but I don't really see how it's Joe Biden's fault. It would be his fault if he lobbied against it or refused to sign a bill that reached him. This is an issue (which I mentioned during the primaries) of the median Senator being more conservative than all the major Democratic candidates (I don't count Bloomberg as a "major" candidate, as I never thought he had a hope of winning the nomination). This is why, while I preferred Sanders to Biden, I didn't actually think which of the two won mattered a great deal in terms of passed legislation. Sure, Sanders would be much more progressive in his beliefs--that just means that much more progressive priorities would die on the Senate floor. If you can't pass even a complete Biden agenda, what's the point of a Sanders agenda? (The answer, IMO, is that there's still value in having a President arguing for those things with the pulpit of the position, which is why I did prefer Sanders as President.)

He understood tariffs so little that he thought that tariffs on Chinese products were paid by the Chinese. Idiot.

In short - It’s the same as every bill ever written. It’s named the complete opposite of what it does and full of irrelevant shit the other side is going to whine about to further delay passage.

The good news is I just found out I am “affluent” with my wife and I’s whopping $80k combined household income (if we’re lucky) and we will not be receiving a check due to our economic privilege.

Once again, Same old shit from your "trusted" leaders. I feel for you and your wife.

We’re good. Cost of living is low here and we are pretty good with our money. Appreciate the kind words though:cheers: I couldn’t imagine being somewhere like California (hell even Oregon now) where cost of living is higher and being told 75k and above is “more affluent”. It’s especially strange they base it on 2019 income, before anyone was affected by COVID. Can’t even pretend politicians are trying to make sense at this point.

My wife and I want to plan a trip to Yellowstone in the next couple of years. I think we want to make our (week-long) base in Jackson Hole. Does that seem about right? Thanks in advance.

It's his fault because he's not advocating for it or applying pressure to help it pass.

It's his fault because he promised $2000 checks and is only pushing for $1400.

Its his fault because he has the largest microphone on the planet and he's not supporting or advocating for the policies he promised the progressives he would. And without their votes Trump would be our president right now.

Now, any progressive that actually believed Joe Biden has had their head in the sand for decades, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't hold his feet to the fire.

The people want the policies he promised. We should do everything in our power to make sure he delivers, and let him hear us loudly when he proves it was a lie.

My wife and I did just such a trip almost 3 years ago and it was a blast. That said, after about 2 full days, there’s not much left to see or do in Jackson itself. But then, if you really want to do Yellowstone right, it takes a couple of days all by itself it’s so damn big. It’s definitely a place God did well. And if you have the time, Bozeman MT is a very nice place to spend some time in with the wife if you head out the north entrance of Yellowstone.....

Pretty sure $80k combined means you get the full stimulus.

$1,400 and married couples earning less than $150,000 would receive $2,800.

Nice. Thanks for that.

Yeah, Jackson would be the closest and most accommodating. Yellowstone you can see nearly the whole thing in a day or two. I’d try to get a little farther off the beaten path the rest of the time, if you’re into that kind of thing. Yellowstone is cool but it’s like being at Disneyland with the hoards of insane people. Bridger-Teton and Shoshone natl forests are right there. There are also a lot of tiny towns that are fun to pop into for a drink and BS with the local yokels.

Ever tried to put pressure on something using a wet noodle?

In fact, they did. Kamala Harris went to West Virginia and pushed for the $15 minimum wage, royally angering Manchin. Beyond that, we have no idea what pressure is or isn't being applied behind the scenes. But they did apply pressure to Manchin out in public, in his own state.

It's his fault because he promised $2000 checks and is only pushing for $1400.

They (Democrats) promised the $2000 that they advocated for from the start. $600 of that was distributed, so they're now making up the remaining $1400.

I agree that he's not a progressive, but I find the arguments that he lied to be unpersuasive.
