Sounds like he is going to call for changes to the filibuster, today.

I would like them to transition to it more slowly. I could support a 55 vote majority for starters.

About time. Guess he was waiting for Manchin to experience modern bipartisanship first before he put too much pressure on him to change the filibuster. To any reasonable person outside of West Virginia it is obvious to all of us, but Manchin has to do his politicking for his base back home.
Manchin is always on thin ice with his base.

Politicians really dont pretend to be honest, they only pretend to be as honest as anyone in politics.

Not enough urgency from democrats. Which was always going to be the outcome as soon as the DNC hand picked candidate came out of the primary.

Democrats get to be the party of the educated while giving corporations all they want, Republicans get to be the party of the uneducated and religious while still giving corporations everything they want.

Manchin and bird lady are the fall guys. I don't see much fight in the Dems which tells me they don't really want change. The owner donors have decided and so the Dems won't dare cross them.

People don't seem to understand that the Republican donors are the same as the Democratic donors. This country is paralyzed by its corruption and there will be hell to pay soon.

Just wait till the Republicans take back the government with a slim margin, then eliminate the filibuster to ram a bunch of their crap through. Democrats will be looking like a bunch of chumps.

How Left Is The American Left...And Why Didn't Socialism Catch On Here?

American views about the "political spectrum" are extremely skewed.

Even if <insert your favorite presidential candidate here> was elected, even if Democrats had maximum urgency, Manchin and Sinema were still going to have veto powers.

I don't see it turning out any different than it has. Unless <insert> had longer coattails and was able to elect more D senators - you can hypothesize that but I'm skeptical.

Biden isn't putting enough political pressure on them, IMO. Because they are doing what they are supposed to. Biden is Manchin and Sinema, IMO.

You need a more popular candidate who can ramp up and direct public pressure. I hate to say it, but somewhat like Trump has done.

But the DNC deliberately undercuts candidates like that because those candidates will not be popular or have energy by supporting the DNC. So they arw a threat to the DNC.

I don't see any other way to institute policies which will actually improve things for the middle class. That will take a drastic shakeup like what Obama probably could have done. But he wasn't actually interested in doing that.

What kind of political pressure do you think would work on Manchin and Sinema?

Problem with 'like Trump' is that Democratic voters aren't a cult and aren't going to vote en masse for or against whoever the President tells them to.
Do you think anyone could convince WV voters to vote for a more liberal Democrat? Maybe in the primary, but that just means a loss in the general.

Seems every congress has those that don't tow the party line. It will never change.

China's zero-Covid policy could deal another blow to global supply chains, Moody's says

KEY POINTS
  • Supply chain disruptions are being prolonged driven largely by China's strict zero-Covid policy, according to an economist from Moody's Analytics.
  • China's zero-Covid policy "really does increase the downside risks for material improvement in supply chains," said Katrina Ell, a senior economist for Asia-Pacific.
  • She noted there will be "important ramifications for inflation and also central bank policy-making in the next couple of months."

I don't think Biden could get that kind of support. His policies (the policies he actually supports) aren't good enough to gain more support.

If he actually did what was necessary to address the pandemic that could help. Why are we just now talking about getting at home tests into every home? Why are we still paying out of pocket for tests? Why haven't we purchased the covid-19 patents from big pharm and built out a worldwide network to kill this disease? Instead we get half assed politics.

The President will have to get enough people in WV to pressure Manchin. That will take huge political pressure in WV by the President personally campaigning in WV for those policies.

Apply enough pressure and Manchin would cave. He would cave before you had to run somebody against him.

But again, Biden isn't even close to doing that. He's interested in doing as little as possible while trying to look as progressive as possible.
