If there are rumors he won't report, then no team will take a chance. I hope he isn’t traded and won’t report here TBH. Maybe we can see team BB for once with Scoot at the point.

I see a lot of people dismiss Scottie Barnes as a possibility like we're not dealing with Damian Lillard here.

Do you mean people dismiss Barnes as he is more valueable than Dame? Or dismiss Barnes as Dame is worth more?

Dismiss the idea that we could ask for him in return for Dame.

"Toronto is never gunna do that."

Or suggest the idea of getting Barnes and call it a pipe dream.

In my opinion, when it comes to Dame, Scottie Barnes sbould not be off-limits

can somebody point me to any link saying Toronto actually has interest in Dame? I'm not saying they don't, but it just seems to be fantasy league at this point

I just am not convinced TOR is in "win over the next two years" mode. Clearly with Pascal it fits, but what would their roster look like if they gave up just one of their young wings? Are Dame and GTJ a good fit? I just see in my mind's eye GTJ standing still clapping his hands for the ball and smh.

I think it makes sense on Toronto end if they can lock up Pascal and OG prior to a Dame trade, and their owners are ok paying some tax. That is a team with Pascal/OG/Dame some other nice vets in Poetl/etc that can really contend.

But if they can't lock up Pascal/OG first or those guys insist on holding out for supermax it probably doesn't make sense for them to trade for Dame. They wouldn't want to trade for Dame now then have to pay 3 guys supermax or have one of those guys walk and be stuck paying Dame $60 million as a non contender and Barnes gone.

GTJ would likely be part of the salary filler going out in a Dame trade. He probably would go to a third team.

It makes a ton of sense for both teams if Toronto is looking to win now, and the Blazers like Barnes prospects.

Certainly see trades like this go through - Kevin Love for #1 pick Wiggins is one of many. But there are certainly times that teams hold back and don't do these deals like when the Warriors wouldn't trade a very young Klay for an allstar.

wut?

is there a link somewhere in that 6 page thread that shows the Raps actually have interest in Dame?
Do teams usually come out and say they're interested in trading for a player?

I didn't ask for a direct quote from Ujiri or Maple Leaf Sports

I was just asking for something, some kind of tweet or blog or rumor that Toronto might be looking at Dame. I haven't read every post in every thread so I was wondering if there was something other than fantasy trades and speculation generated here

All I’ve seen was Shams’ quote saying Dame wouldn’t report “to a team like Toronto”. I think people just ran with that as smoke that might be emanating from Raptors- Blazers trade talk. I think it’s just smoke.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. So you have to believe there is no smoke if it’s not true.

Given the massive amount of smoke that gets blown around the NBA player movement, generally regarding moves that never happen, I think that bit of folk wisdom doesn’t apply.

Recent Blazers’ history has had names mentioned in the media of players Lillard would like to play with.

Grant was a cultivated relationship … a year left on contract … Portland ties didn’t hurt … a TPE was just big enough … and an acquired future 1st rounder was conveyed. Lotsa smoke.
Vanderbilt and OG and Bridges. Mentioned by Lillard but not acquired. Little bit of smoke.

My point is a significant amount of smoke, recently, was generated by Lillard.
And now, his and Miami’s water bearer — Shams — happens to mention a team that …
… actually fits as a trade partner
… has a GM not known for conventional wisdom as seen with Kawhi Leonard
… who is in position for win-now BUT has 3 bigger contract to decide upon in ONE year
… and any of the 3 best forwards Toronto has makes for a better deal than ANYTHING Miami could put together.
And what do they lack? A high quality PG leader who hits 3’s.

So no wonder that Shams facilitates trying to warn off an actual threat to Miami … again.

If you're Masai and interested in Barnes + for Dame, you talk to Joe and not let what Shams or whoever's tweet deter you. Dame is a pro.

I'm so beaten down, when any "other" team is mentioned, I assume it's only as a destination for Herro.

I assume it's all just media wannabe's making shit up

Yep, they get our hopes up when none of it is true. The end result is we will be depressed about what we really end up with.
Please let me be wrong

M expectations for value coming back in a Dame trade is low, would be nice to be surprised

Toronto doesn't need to give up two picks plus Dick. A Barnes for Dame swap may be close to even on its own - definitely not getting three great assets back in addition to Barnes. Trent is worth something as well.

Trent for Simmons is an interesting 3 way aspect of this.

The Blazers very much want to keep Ant. Even if they trade him away this seems like a quite poor return as Trent for Simmons is worth the majority of that pick so Ant is dumped for basically a small part of a pick.
