on the other hand we know that Cronin and Ujiri have had lots of conversations over the last 2 seasons, so maybe they have recurring regular dialog. This might have started with a discussion about Herro followed by some 'what-if' spitballing about Dame

Dame will be on the team come media day, imo. If Dames camp can put pressure on Portland by heat only, then Portland can put pressure on them both by waiting for Dame to go public with, entertains a few more teams, which would put pressure on Miami. Joe needs to hold strong.

I like this trade. Barnes and Precious could be long term fits for us, and they are young and fit in with the timeline of our core. Boucher is good too. Trent is just a filler.




Raptors get to keep their precious OG and Siakam, Lillard gets to go play with the players he was wanting us to acquire via trade. I think both teams would be happy.

Don't see how there is pressure on Portland, Blazers are going to suck with or without Dame.

Teams will either offer real value for Dame and he gets traded or they will not offer legit value and he stays. Blazers aren't going to give him away for a poor return. They might be slightly willing to lose a bit in the trade to get a deal done, but no more than that. This is the biggest moment of Joe Cronin's career - he isn't going to rush to go down as the idiot GM who gave Dame away for scraps.

Blazers are totally prepared to bring Dame back to camp, ride this out to December/Deadline.... and possibly even consider keeping Dame until next summer. They'd prefer to do a trade sooner but there needs to be at least a single real piece. Can't name one very good thing in these Heat rumors.

I agree. Portland won't "win" the trade....we always knew that. But we do need a couple of good young players that play a position of need (or one really good player) and some picks. But there is absolutely no pressure for Portland to make the trade for the reasons you mentioned.

Yeah I almost want to bring Dame back here just to stick it to Miami.

Previously I was thinking hey maybe we lose a bit in the trade just to turn the page and focus on Scoot/Sharpe.

But caving in to Dame and Miami sets a horrible precedent for players to run over the Blazers. Say what you want about Morey, but I don't think any 6er is ever going to try the Ben Simmons holdout for that team or management again.

I like this three-team trade that gets the Nurk for Ayton trade as part of things. I think it works for all teams and preserves some of Toronto's limited depth. Knox is there just for salary purposes. Creating a Core of Scoot, Sharpe, Simons, Barnes and Ayton is straight up delicious!

I believe he said he would. And if it is Toronto or Brooklyn I think after a couple of days he will be excited about the potential.
What I wouldn't do is talk to him first. Just trade for him and then sell him on why he is a good fit. Which should not be too hard except for maybe the weather in the winter.

Maybe he wasn't, but something shifted in Ujiri's thinking. That makes me less wanting Barnes, but he's by far the best young piece I can imagine that is actually in the realm of remote possibility. I think Barnes has all the upside in the world and believe that he can correct the atrocious shooting and get it to the reasonable level. We need defenders who are switchable and Barnes is still fairly elite in that category, with Scoot's magic he could really flourish as a cutter especially if he has 2 of Sharpe, GTJ in my trade scenario(s) and Simons also on the floor out at the 3pt line. Barnes could really go off as a cutter in that environment.

That is a lot cleaner thanks! I think Barnes and a still young Trent while not the best haul, is also A) the best young player at a position of need no less, that is reasonably available (only due to all the Toronto rumors) and B) NOT Miami, which I value at a FRP or two at this point.

Dame doesn't have to say anything because everyone knows he'll report. He's a baller like Durant, he's not going to pull a Ben Simmons.

Dame agent might make some threats to steer Dame to Miami but its all empty talk.

There are many reports Dame and the Blazers have accepted if a trade doesn't happen he'll be at camp, although both sides would prefer a deal gets done sooner than later.

I love Scottie Barnes the most of any player in trade ideas but MM said his name hasn't come up at all - he might be untouchable in Dame trade talks. Would presume OG is the player they are floating, unless Masai is just throwing out lowball offers.
