Trade Deadline: February 6, 2025

What’s funny we got lucky jumping to third…you’re acting like we had the 3rd best odds.

but none of your posts really make sense so
Last year we had the 3rd fewest wins in the league. Yeah we lost a coin flip and a couple teams jumped us pushing us to 7th.

We're currently slotted to pick #8 or 9 so a teams jump us or we get some wins and we may be picking 12th.

Maybe you enjoy Grant Ant Ayton vets. I'd much rather be getting a stud rookie next year.

Who exactly are the Cronin lovers?

I haven't seen anyone make that claim. The theory was that he was told to get the team under the luxury tax. Nobody that I know of thinks that salary cap space is ever really a benefit for us.
All the delusional fans celebrating that stupid Clippers trade as well as many of the worthless moves this franchise has made recently.

Or, like the Hawks last year, first.

You have to be smart about it. I didn't claim just losing is enough. But it is essential unless you get incredibly lucky.

If you're smart and willing to lose you can make your own luck by following the math.
How often does the worst team get the best pick? You can’t make you’re own luck.

The worst team is guaranteed a top 5 pick. Do that 4 or 5 years in a row and, if you're decently smart with your picks and how you trade away any vets you had before the rebuild, you'll have a loaded roster with a chance to contend.

Regardless of what management team you have you'll have a far better future than a team with the same luck and same management who picked outside the top 5 those years.

It's not making your own luck. It's just following the math.

Okay, you guys win, we dump Ayton, Grant, Simons, and Rob Williams. Call up all of our 2-way players. Thybulle's still injured. At every halftime, 30 points down, Scooter and Clingan with 6 fouls. Here's what's left for the 2nd half.

C Reath, Jabari Walker
PF Camara, Murray
SF Avidja, Justin Minaya
SG Sharpe, Rupert, Bryce McGowens
PG Banton, Taze Moore

We are worse than last year's team. No progress. Every game a laugher for our opponent. The future stars learning nothing constructive in this environment.
Actually, I like that lineup. Still have Deni & Camara, our two best players. You’re exaggerating that Scoot and Clingan would foul out in the first half. Scoot averages 2.7 fouls per game. Clingan has never fouled out.

No, my rebuttal would be that we don't have a quality coach like the Thunder do, so there is no long-term improvement.

You have 92,000 posts? That's the first one I ever noticed.

I thought it would be interesting to list who our players would be in the 2nd half of a game, with Scooter and Clingan in their usual foul trouble. Seemed interesting to me. Sorry to bore you. I'll try to stand out from the crowd, and make my opinions more outlandish, to please you.
Scoot and Clingan aren’t usually in foul trouble.

It's funny that if we tried to flip Ant for Norm we'd have to include FRP(s)

Heard for so long from the Cronin lovers how the Blazers had to dump Norm so the Blazers would then be able to use all that salary room for better players.

We used all that salary space on GP2, Ant, Nurk, Ayton, Grant, Thybulle

Literally every single one of them is worse than Norm.

Meanwhile Eric Bledsoe and Didi are STILL on our salary cap this season.
Poor use of the word “literally.” All you have to say is “Every single one of them is worse than Norm.” It’s a stronger statement,

I’m pro-Cronin.

When are you are 8 or 9, it’s unlikely teams will jump you. It’s nearly impossible that 3 teams would jump you. When you are say, 3rd, the odds say you will get jumped. Even if you are 1st, there is more than an 80% chance you will get jumped.

Pretty sure the trade was widely panned. I don't think anyone loved it. Who loved it?
Justise Winslow was a great player for us so I didn’t hate the deal. We actually had the best record in the West after 14 games the season after the trade. Then he got hurt unfortunately:

Haha. It’s nearly impossible to get the worst record in the league 4 or 5 seasons in a row. Especially if you’re apparently adding top flight talent every year. Also- getting 5th in 2 or 3 player drafts year after year won’t help you.

You wouldn't get the 5th every year. And you wouldn't have to have the worst record every year to get to 5 for 4 or 5 years. Or even 4 out of 5 years.

And if you're getting so many good young players that you can't tank that long with them leading your team that means your rebuild is going very well.

You can argue against this as much as you want but you can't fight the math. This is absolutely the most likely way for a team like Portland to build a championship.

In fouls per either minute or possession, our tops are Clingan, Walker, and Scooter. If Clingan or Scooter are forced to start against opponent starters, and play full games, they will be in heavy foul trouble. If we have little depth from midseason trades, they'll either foul out, or to last most of the game, ease up in intensity, and play like we did last season. That's what I said in those posts.

As shown by the Sixers “Process” Era, in an environment in which the only thing that matters is losing, the players will carry that toxic mindset forward, even after the team adds better players.

There's some big names in the record books for most fouls by a rookie in full season. I don't think I'm gonna write off either of them. I'll probably give them another year or two. I mean, some people's golden boy, Meyers something, got 7 years to figure it out. I would rather take some time to develop a 7-footer that rebounds, blocks a couple shots and gets his fouls being too physical than a guy that identifies as a 6' PG.

Are people writing off cligan? Lmao that's so sad.

I think it’s funny how the narrative has changed so drastically to “we waited too long to trade the vets!”….when we are a week or so away from the trade deadline. did any of you honestly think a deal would have happened by now? During the season?

yes, it seems much tougher to trade bigger money contracts right now because of the CBA. But guess who knows the CBA better than anyone? NBA GM’s, asst GM’s and down the list.

organizations know what’s coming. They plan for it. I would be very surprised if the Blazers didn’t see the new CBA restrictions coming.

If one of Ant, Grant or Ayton are not traded then i will be confused only because we obviously need to give the young guys a real shot.

Do we really know what Ant or grants value really was?
If we trade Grant or Ant and aren’t thrilled about the return..how are we supposed to know that’s hasn’t been their value all along? We don’t and we won’t..,except for guys like Dwight Jaynes who will say “I know for a fact we passed up better deals”. Okay pal
now, we always here how there’s so much smoke leading up to every trade deadline. I think it’s interesting most talking heads are saying this one is going to be difficult. I could see the opposite happening and sometimes talking heads are way the hell off..actually most of the time.

you have to pencil in the fact that the Butler situation is definitely holding things up. That happens almost every year with a disgruntled player

everyone chill out.
We knew in September we weren’t making a trading until this upcoming week.
If that doesn’t happen then we have something to complain about.

Hopefully Grant's little injury last night doesn't further impact his already low trade value.

Cronin will turn all his doubters into his fans within the next two weeks
