You guys ever spend a summer in Corvallis? I spent two summers in Eugene, whoa... What a completely different experience. It's how I ended up meeting and working on Ken Kesey's ranch.

Somehow I just got stuck on stupid with that shop teacher statement. He looks the part. You’ve been here long enough to not take a SINGLE thing I type seriously. Yes of course I know who he is……gotta get back to trolling!
Not Corvallis but spent some time in Pullman during the summer and if you hated the small town vibe of a city with 30k people and 25k of them being students, you'd loathe it when 20k of those students took off. For us it was a great time, cooking out in the hot weather, parties on the weekends with the few friends in town or going to the Dunes. You guys ever spend a summer in Corvallis? Beavers shifted to building the Pac12 because the Big12 didn't want them. It's like saying in the 90s my preference to date Cindy Crawford shifted to other girls.View attachment 75407
In the midst of the Pac-12's collapse, Oregon State University (OSU) explored various options for the future of its athletic programs, including potentially joining the Big 12 Conference.
However, OSU's primary preference was to rebuild the Pac-12.
Here's a breakdown of OSU's actions regarding conference realignment:
While joining the Big 12 was considered, the focus for Oregon State ultimately shifted to rebuilding the Pac-12.
- Considering all options: Following the departure of most Pac-12 schools, Oregon State had to consider numerous paths forward, including the Big 12, HERO Sports reports.
- Prioritizing Pac-12 rebuild: Oregon State Athletic Director Scott Barnes stated that rebuilding the Pac-12 was the program's top choice.
- Legal actions to control Pac-12 assets: OSU and Washington State (WSU) filed a lawsuit against the Pac-12 to gain control of the conference board and its assets, enabling them to potentially rebuild the league. The Washington Supreme Court ultimately sided with OSU and WSU, giving them control of the Pac-12's assets.
- Rebuilding the Pac-12: OSU and WSU, in collaboration with the Pac-12, have since announced that Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, and Gonzaga will join the conference starting in the summer of 2026.
I went back through the thread we have on this.
Colorado announced they were leaving on July 27th.
On July 28th, teams are scrambling in the Pac-12. OSU announces they're sticking with the Pac-12.
Az, Az St, Utah, all talking with Big 12.
August 3rd. They bolt.
August 4th. Ducks and Huskies announce they're leaving.
Going by press reports, it really does look like the Beavers did nothing after July 28th.
I see no reports that the Beavers talked with the Big 12 when Az, Az St, and Utah were.
I understand this was a fast-moving situation, but I really think OSU's AD completely fumbled the ball.
It's funny how some people claim the Ducks have the PDX market even though Corvallis is much closer.Again this is where it doesn't make sense, WSU is the Seattle market, not Pullman/Spokane and Corvallis is the PDX market, not Corvallis, so those schools had to bring added value that schools like Arizona/ASU didn't as they get fewer eyeballs on their games, but what they do have is location and ease of access for most of the rest of the conference. Sorry man, the logic doesn't add up and from what I was told by a couple people I trust, the B12 didn't want the travel and that was the much bigger factor in the States not getting the invite.
I never should have broke up with Cindy. Broke her heart. I feel bad to this day.Beavers shifted to building the Pac12 because the Big12 didn't want them. It's like saying in the 90s my preference to date Cindy Crawford shifted to other girls.
The Ducks absolutely have the PDX market without question. Nike is literally based in Beaverton. It's funny how some people claim the Ducks have the PDX market even though Corvallis is much closer.

I agree. There are far more Duck fans in the Portland area than Beaver fans. #BANDWAGON
Yeah, I liked it. Still plenty of beautiful babes. Took some classes in the summer too.You guys ever spend a summer in Corvallis? I spent two summers in Eugene, whoa... What a completely different experience. It's how I ended up meeting and working on Ken Kesey's ranch.
Maybe Oregon draws from some states, but I've met so many people from Alaska that went to OSU it is crazy.Sure, the Ducks have the bandwagon fans at this time in the Portland area, but Portland also has fans of other universities. And I would bet that more Oregonians have gone to OSU over the past 30 years than Oregon.
Oregon seems to draw more students from other states. They benefit from the out-of-state tuition. The fan base at games in California is substantial because the ex-students are from there. Hell, there was a sports bar in NYC last Saturday that was packed 3 stories high with Duck fans. But the hatred for the Ducks is more evident whenever I visit Portland than it is living in LA. And the USC fans hate Oregon with a passion.

Yeah that’s just not the way I see it at all and I’ve lived and worked here most of my life. Oregon also has the extension in Portland right at PSU. I went to OSU so I pay attention. It’s about 4 to 1 Ducks to Beavers but a bunch of us Beaver fans pull for Oregon outside of when they play each other. I certainly do.So you dont even live here in Portland... yet you are telling those of us that do and see far more people wearing Duck gear than any other school... that the Ducks arent the most popular school in Portland right now?
Fun fact, I've worked with Oregon business grads and it could just be the people, but I find Oregon State and Portland State business grads to generally be better.Oregon and Oregon State are different schools.
Oregon majors are Business and Journalism or Psychology.
Oregon State has the big four land sea air space grant and engineering plus forest and agricultural
Huge difference in the way the schools are attended.

Again this is where it doesn't make sense, WSU is the Seattle market, not Pullman/Spokane and Corvallis is the PDX market, not Corvallis, so those schools had to bring added value that schools like Arizona/ASU didn't as they get fewer eyeballs on their games, but what they do have is location and ease of access for most of the rest of the conference. They both have the PDX market ... it would be like saying the ucks don't have it but Portland State does or UofP. If Corvallis was their 'market' than you'd see horrible TV ratings and yet in 2023 they were #20 in the entire nation. They have a massive fanbase and most of that is in PDX. And psssst ... they are all of 25 miles closer, it's not like Eugene is tucked down in the SE corner of Oregon on the opposite end of the state. Just look at WSU, it's a 5 hour drive to Seattle and yet that market is really where the WSU fans live. It's funny how some people claim the Ducks have the PDX market even though Corvallis is much closer.
Where do the majority of WSU fans live? Come on man, you can't be this obtuse. It's really not that hard to understand that WSU has a chunk of the Seattle market, just the facts. Whether you choose to believe it or not, the numbers don't lie. It's not about how far a school is from a city, it's about the make up of the fanbases and the demographics of the cities. It would be like saying the Dallas market belongs to SMU, when it's dominated by Texas and Texas A&M.your logic is the one that doesn't make much sense; sorry. WSU is not the Seattle market. Washington is; plus the Seahwks and Mariners; & Kraken. It's 280 miles from Pullman to Seattle. Eugene is as close to Seattle as Pullman is
it's a little more persuasive to give OSU some credit for the Portland market but Oregon is more dominant in that market; so are the Blazers
and if you actually look at the numbers for TV ratings in 2023, almost always when OSU/WSU got decent ratings it's when they played a major P5 team. OSU 'drew' 1.4M when they played UCLA; 1.3M when they played Utah; and 418K when they played San Diego St. Same dynamic was generally there for WSU. A variable was time slot

I'm not going spend much time arguing with you about this. The current situation has already settled that argument. It's obvious that the conference(s) and media believed OSU/WSU brought insufficient cache, market leverage, and branding recognition to the negotiating table. It may be that IF either/both schools were in the Big-12 they might outdraw UCF or West Virginia. But those schools were already in the Big-12 and weren't going to get booted in favor of the beavs/cougs.
now, without knowing exactly what the terms of the Big-12's Pro-Rata deal with it's media partners is, we can't know for certain if it was media rejecting OSU/WSU or the Conference itself; or both. Doesn't really matter; but certainly, if it was all on the conference, the geography and logistics of traveling to Corvallis and Pullman were very likely a major consideration
But all my family is there, so I am up there all the time. My family has a house on the coast. So during the summer and early fall, I spend a lot of time there.
No idea how its changed the last 9 years but OSU is just as liberal if not more so than Eugene nowadays. It was incredibly liberal when I attended in the late 2000's.This explains a bunch. The coast is not Portland at all. Matter of fact the Locals on the coast hate Portland. The Coast is very conservative and yes you will find more OSU fans there for sure.
Just between you and me, did you have an “incident” with YOUR shop teacher? Where did he hurt you?Somehow I just got stuck on stupid with that shop teacher statement. He looks the part.
And I have that one amendment of free speech behind me, so I can say whatever I want.
