Trade Deadline: February 6, 2025

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

On the other hand I can see Cronin/Kolde now want to see these vets stay here and try to make a run at the playin this season.
I'd be willing to put money down that that's exactly what's happening.

I'd say Thybulle and Reath are the guys who get traded....I want Ant to get traded but not sure that's happening at the deadline.
Dallas needs helping the back court, so I think Thybulle is a possibility.

I'm just trying to think how this whole idea would work now that we feel we have a pretty good core so we should just actively try to lose from here on out.

Aside from the message that would send to the fans that actually go to the games, are you benching everyone older than Shaedon? What do you do with Deni? Do you think having a half-dozen players that still aren't in the primes of their careers sitting out just on the off-chance the Blazers might win the lottery sitting out a season that they could be using toward another contract is going to fly well with them or other players that might come here?

What if, God forbid, the Blazers still win? Or what if we lose but we have the worst possible scenario in the lottery and end up picking sixth or seventh anyway?

It just seems there are a lot of potentially negative outcomes to actively tanking when you're getting decent. The Sixers have stars and a really good roster and still are stuck in purgatory. The Pelicans keep picking higher and getting worse. And, again, no one wants to be the Wizards.
We don’t have a star.

We have an amazing core but we don’t have a GUY yet. We don’t have a Dame. We have some guys who maybe could possibly be that guy, but nobody that I’m convinced is really a sure thing. Shaedon doesn’t seem to have the right mindset. Scoot to me is the spirit animal of the team, and Deni could be a fantastic number two…. But I don’t think we have a true star. This ship isn’t gonna make it out to sea without a star.

Exactly why we need to tank because that star is in the top 5 of this draft

Oh God.

Who do they think we would replace in the top 10? We are also currently 5 games behind the 10th seed and would have to leap over SA and GS to just make a play in. This mindset is not one I support if our leadership is thinking this.

This isn't the Wemby draft, where there's a massive gulf between #1 and everything else. (If Cooper Flagg is as good as advertised, he'll be a poor man's Anthony Davis. And everybody's been shitting on the Mavs for taking that player back for pudgy Luka.) There will be a player taken in the top 5 who is worse than a second rounder. We're still going to be in the lottery, and even if we don't move up, we've a shot at a star.

Share your Venmo or that's empty talk.

(Of course, I've never used Venmo [I'm not a fucking Millennial], so I don't even know if you CAN share it.)

Nah. Should have traded Grant and Ant over the summer. We'd have lost more games to start the season.

Then we could pull guys from the line up with nagging injuries on our way to a top 5 pick.

The disgust is that that wasn't the plan, so some were expecting the blatant shit show we saw the last few years. This being the best draft of the whole time we've been tanking.

It's disappointing to be missing out on that massive infusion of talent.

I agree although I do think there’s about 60-70% chance one of them will become a star. Sharpe has all the tools just missing the fire which he’s shown when he gets mad so it’s there just have to get it out of him or hope he matures into it. I still think once Ant and Grant are gone he’ll see a different Sharpe. As far as Scoot I love what I’m seeing I said from the beginning, game just needs to slow down for him which it seems like has happened. His effort and desire is there so I’m feeling more and more confident that he will be a star just not sure how big a star. Adding another top level draft pick just increases our odds that we have an alpha star on roster. Plus trading Ant or Grant hopefully adds to our 1st round assets

Good post. We could have a start on this team for sure. We could have two to three of them. And there is no sure thing there is a star in this class. Flagg could be but this draft is a damn good one IMO and has some depth]

LOL.

Odds we aren't in the lottery, even the way we're playing, is negligible.

If we do make the playoffs, it means, with the second-youngest roster in the league, we must have something and are doing really well.

If we get into the playoffs, we lose our first round pick, but we also have ways of getting into the first round.

And instead of taking an iota of energy to enjoy the progress and success, people are worried about what we MIGHT miss out on.

Like I wrote earlier, a lot of people on this board must be great at parties, overly focused on what might be wrong rather than enjoying even a bit what's going right. Winning a few games doesn't mean we aren't going to get Cooper Flagg or some other really good asset from this draft, nor does losing guarantee us Cooper Flagg or even that Flagg will be a stud player.

YOY!

Well with Martin going to Dal there goes my Thybulle prediction.

I love the winning but last night really concerns me. Winning with Ant and Grant getting all the playing time while Scoot and Sharpe sit seems to go against developing the future. Was it a one off of sitting those guys maybe but Billups has said all along guys earn their minutes and last night that wasn’t the case.

I still think that trading Ant and Dalano to Orlando for Anthony Black and Cole Anthony is a good idea. If we can squeeze draft assets out of them as well great but in the long run I think someone like Anthony Black is much more valuable in Chauncey's system than Ant and Ant is what the Magic are missing right now. The trade just makes sense for both teams.

Said it several times, there are multiple ways of "developing" someone.

Playing someone 42 minutes isn't always the proper way to "develop" a prospect.

IMO, we have too many people right now that think or want this to be the only way.

If Shaedon needs to be punished minutes to get better or to observe a pro showing him the right way to win to make him reach his potential, that's development, too.

I think a number of people on the board just might be a little better off keeping an open mind and letting things play out. The sky hasn't fallen yet. The stock market hasn't crashed. You're robbing yourselves of your own joy by being so pessimistic and you're making this less fun for some of your fellow fans by continuing wet-blanketing anything the team does.

I feel like I joined a board of hypochondriacs.

Smart play is to make sure you have a golden ticket to this lottery. Might be last one we are in for a long time. Do I want to lose on purpose absolutely not. I’d be happy to win as long as all our young guys are playing those crucial minutes in big games.

What’s the status with Thybulle? Is he injured? Are we gonna ask him to sit in sweats all year?

Let me be clear on this, too ... I'm not saying it's wrong for you to state your concerns. I'm definitely not the board police. I get the concerns.

However, when the concerns are consistently, overly negative and unreasonably so, then, I think, for some of our own sakes, maybe we should just try to enjoy the ride a little bit every now and then. Enjoy the win now. Complain about it later.

Joe cant seriously expect an unprotected FRP. Hopefully that is posturing or just keep time lord.
